JCBL 5TH SEASON UNDERWAY

After watching our opening games and seeing the enthusiasm the players and fans exhibited, I can't wait to watch this 5th season unfold.
La Cabana, led by the Tony LaRussa of the JCBL, Dave Patterson, is a two time champion and seems to have another strong team. The El Rio Hawks with Pancho and the Bear are looking for a championship playing in their own backyard and are open-mouthed competitive. Jim Hibbs' illustrious baseball career would be complete with a JCBL Championship for Instant Baseball. They seem to have their strongest team to date.
Mission Avocados is stocked with a lot of Oxnard boys and led this year by Mike Minjares, his first time managing in the JCBL. He is doubly motivated since his paycheck comes from the sponsor. Mike York, voted most likeable coach last year, has taken over the reins for McCarthy White Sox since Pat announced his retirement. The McCarthy boys will haunt the league again giving the White Sox a strong look as always.
Our newest addition is the MVP Red Sox from Newbury Park. Josh Goldfield, their manager, will bring his team down the hill to test the JCBL"s strength. He has a young, organized and enthusiastic team. We'll see how they take to the competition.
The Rio Del Valle field looks the best I've seen it, smooth and green like a Field of Dreams should look.
The Rio School District Superintendent, Dr. John Puglisi, threw out the first ball at the Opening Ceremonies and he pitched a perfect called strike to catcher Eddie Vasquez. He has been an encouraging partner in the JCBL's efforts with the school district's field. As a league, we look to help to add improvements to the field as the years go by.
All in all an exciting summer of good baseball awaits us. The field looks great, the teams look the strongest yet and the umpires, led by Al Bleiberg and Greg Everett, have not made a mistake yet - at least as far as they are concerned... and it will stay that way if I know umpires!
